WHAT DEPRESSION FEELS LIKE - SEEKING HELP

Depression. A word used by many and understood only by a few. Most people think that it means a feeling of sorrow and intense grief. Many take it to mean someone’s weakness. Nobody ever takes it to mean what it actually does mean. Many say, "Believe in yourself and everything will be fine". Some say, "Stop being a wimp", and others say," You are just trying to gain attention". But what most people never say is, “I think professional help can benefit you?”, “Don't worry, I am here for you.”
Depression. Depression is like a road accident. You don't really know when it comes. But it hits you hard and shatters you into pieces. It is like waking up on a hospital bed, the morning after an accident. You are in ache and pain but at that instant, you may not hold even the slightest clue about your condition. Hence, one needs to get educated about it to break the stigma and realize that they need professional help.
Depression. Depression is when your thoughts bleed, not your body. Depression is being unable to control your thoughts and having your thoughts control you. It is not a state of mind. It is a feeling that far surpasses any ordinary emotion. It is a constant feeling of numbness that engulfs your body, enchains your limbs, cripples your mind, and nearly destroys every cell in you. You can prevent this to a huge extent if you reach out for help! This can happen only if you are aware of mental health concerns, right?
Depression. Depression is the inability to feel alive. It is a feeling of colorlessness. It is the lack of will to go on and it is the strongest temptation to give up. It is like experiencing a horror movie first hand. It is like being shut in a suffocating closet all alone. But remember, you don’t have to be alone. You can have a comfortable space and a safe person to talk with and to help you out with your concerns.
Depression. Depression is like drowning. It is like trying to swim to the surface of the ocean with a heavy rock tied to your leg. Even the effort to swim up feels futile. It seems as if all the sharks are there to feast on you, as you surrender yourself to the ocean as blue as you. But remember, no efforts of you are going to go to waste. They will help you see the colors in the end!
Depression. Depression is like winter. It freezes not only your bones and blood but also your emotions. Everything seems dull and bleak. Everything seems dead and nothing looks beautiful. All one can see is the cold white snow lining the dark winter landscape. But it gets better, I assure you. With the necessary help and efforts, you will see things in their brightest sense!
Dear adults, this is depression. Depression is not something that should be taken lightly. Sadly, even today it isn't seen as a major problem. Being physically hurt is something that will never be neglected and being mentally hurt is something that is never accepted easily. So, I have only one question for you- "When you feel like you have lost all control over yourself and have your ugliest thoughts control every second of your day, will you say- Oh! Don't worry, it will all go away - even then?".
The very essence is to understand that people never choose to go through what they do go through in their day to day lives. Everyone has their own battles to fight and it is important for each one of us to facilitate that process. Let’s not be the demons that other people have to fight. Instead, let’s become their shields. Their shields from all that can hamper their effort in this battle of depression. Nobody who suffers from a mental health condition is at fault or has committed any sort of error. The folly lies in those who make victims feel guilty of feeling what they are feeling. Mental health problems are absolutely normal and nobody should have to bear the brunt of suffering from them. Everyone deserves to seek help for better mental health!
