What is online counseling?
Online counseling, also known as e-therapy or e-counseling, is a convenient way in which a therapist or counselor provides coping mechanisms and support for everyday life situations. This can take place through email, video conferencing, online chat, messaging, or phone.
Who can benefit from counseling?
Everyone can use a little extra support in handling life's challenges, and one way to get it is through talking to a trained professional. Research has shown that verbalizing feelings can have a significant therapeutic effect on the brain. In other words, getting your worries out in the open (even the "insignificant" ones), with someone trained to help you manage them, is good for your well-being. Therapy has a reputation as a tool for overcoming anxiety, depression and addiction. However, it is also beneficial for those who want to establish better emotional wellness in their daily life.
We encourage anyone above 18 yrs of age, irrespective of nationality, gender, sexual orientation and nature of concern to sign up and try convenient online counseling services.
Why should I seek counseling vs. just talking to my family members, or friends?
Friends and family members know you and your history, but they may not always make for good therapists. At the Mood Space, the focus is only on YOU while in a friendship, you and your friends listen to each other’s struggles and support each other.
The Mood Space is a
judgement free & confidential zone to express yourself and your concerns without any worry. Our therapists have been trained in therapeutic conversation to provide
neutral & unbiased insight into your life. Since they do not have a personal relationship with you the way a friend does, they can guide you objectively, without any bias.
How do you know if your counselor is right for you?
As with any new person, you have to get to know and learn to trust the therapist. It may be scary and awkward talking to a stranger about your personal life. However, all our therapists have ways of helping people feel safe and comfortable. You will know that you’ve found the right therapist when the conversation develops naturally, and flows freely.
Can I change my counselor if we don’t get along?
Every therapist has their own approach toward counseling and we advise you to trust your counselor since they are professionally trained. However, if for any reason you are not satisfied with your counselor, shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How long does it take for counseling to be effective?
There is no set amount of time. The simple answer is, it can take as long as you are satisfied with the outcome. Every case is completely unique and it depends on the individual who comes to therapy. The goals of the person seeking therapy will determine the length of therapy. We suggest our clients to take a minimum of 6 - 10 sessions to see progress.
The point of therapy is not to keep people in therapy indefinitely; you and your therapist will work together to evaluate your progress and determine when to stop seeking therapy.
How do I know if counseling is working for me?
Over time, counseling will help you think, feel and behave differently. You will be able to deal with everyday situations, gain a better understanding of yourself and overcome thoughts or behaviours that were coming in the way of you being able to function at your highest potential.
Does one become too dependent on their counselor?
This is a common hindrance and anxiety. The relationship between client and therapist is not a friendship, yet you may tell your therapist things you are likely to have told no one. Many people come to rely on the safe relationship they foster with their therapist. However, it is the responsibility of good and ethical therapists to create conditions that do not encourage dependence, and help their clients in therapy learn to function and perhaps even thrive without them.
What are the qualifications of the counselor?
The counselors we onboard at The Mood Space are trained and experienced psychologists, with a Master’s degree in the Mental Health Counseling field. They have completed over 2000 hours of clinical experience, and have been carefully vetted and trained. To ensure that our service is seamless and effective, The Mood Space provides internal clinical supervision to their therapists.
Additionally, some of our counselors also have training and certification in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and more.
How long is each session?
Each session typically lasts 45-minutes to one hour. You may book multiple sessions at one time if you require additional time.
How do the different modes of online counseling work?
Currently, The Mood Space is offering services via Phone and Video Calls:
Phone: No matter where you are, Phone sessions are a great way to conveniently speak with your counselor. You will need to schedule a time with your counselor using the online booking system. The counselor will give you a call at the scheduled time.
Video Call: In a virtual face-to-face setting (using Skype or Whatsapp Video), you can schedule video sessions with your counselor using the online booking system. The counselor will give you a call at the scheduled time.
Do you offer Face-to-Face counseling?
Currently, we are only offering online counseling sessions. We offer video sessions which are proven to be a successful means to provide therapy.
How is my privacy protected? Is it safe to talk?
Confidentiality is a respected part of The Mood Space’s Code of Ethics. We take your privacy very seriously and safeguarding your information is of utmost importance to us. All of your data is encrypted on the servers, and all communication between our software and the servers is encrypted. If you wish for any of your information or records to be released to a third party, please let your counselor know. Any information can only be released after your written consent.
Are there any limitations to confidentiality?
There are some situations in which counselors are legally and ethically obligated to take actions they believe may be necessary to protect a client or others from harm. If such a situation arises, The Mood space will make every effort to fully discuss the issue with the client before taking any action and will limit disclosure to only what is necessary to the appropriate agency.
